What fisetin is

A flavonol found in plants and studied as a dietary compound and investigational senotherapeutic.

Fisetin (3,3′,4′,7-tetrahydroxyflavone) is a flavonol polyphenol present in foods such as strawberries, apples, and persimmons, usually at low milligram amounts per serving. Supplemental fisetin is used at higher intakes than typical diet alone provides.

Senescent cells — why the topic exists

Cellular senescence describes a state in which cells stably stop dividing and can secrete inflammatory and tissue-remodeling factors (often summarized as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype, SASP). Accumulation of senescent cells is studied as one contributor to age-related tissue dysfunction.

Compounds investigated for reducing senescent-cell burden or SASP activity are sometimes called senolytics or senomorphics. Those labels describe research hypotheses and experimental findings — not automatic consumer outcomes.

Evidence snapshot

In 2018, Yousefzadeh and colleagues reported that fisetin was the most potent among several flavonoids tested in senescent-cell assays and that intermittent or chronic fisetin exposure reduced senescence markers and improved healthspan metrics in mouse models, including late-life treatment associated with lifespan effects in that study. Adverse effects were not highlighted at the high experimental exposures used.

Human research is active. Registered trials have used short “pulse” schedules on the order of about 20 mg/kg/day for two consecutive days in specific protocols — investigational designs, not MASI label instructions. Reviews through 2024 summarize promising preclinical senotherapeutic data and ongoing clinical evaluation.

Cancer-biology literature also examines fisetin in cell and animal models (growth, survival pathways, oxidative stress). That is laboratory oncology research. It is not evidence that a consumer fisetin capsule treats, prevents, or cures cancer in people.

Oncology and serious disease: Anyone with cancer or complex disease should rely on their oncology or specialty team. Do not replace prescribed therapy with a supplement.

Safety

Dietary fisetin has a long food history. High-dose supplemental and trial exposures need separate judgment. People on anticoagulants or other high-risk medicines, and anyone pregnant or nursing, should obtain clinical advice first. Long-term high-dose human safety data remain limited relative to the size of the consumer market.

Is fisetin a senolytic drug approved to treat aging?

No. Fisetin is studied in senotherapeutic research. MASI fisetin is a dietary supplement, not an approved aging drug.

Is the trial pulse dose the same as the bottle label?

Usually not. Trial mg/kg schedules and labeled daily use are different contexts. Follow the label unless you are in a supervised protocol.

Does fisetin treat cancer?

No consumer claim of that kind is appropriate. Laboratory oncology models are not the same as treating cancer in people.
