How to evaluate longevity-supplement quality
A credible supplement should let you answer five questions: Is the ingredient the stated molecule? Is the amount accurate? Was it screened for relevant contaminants? Is the batch traceable? Will the packaging preserve it through the labelled shelf life?
“Lab tested” is not a result. Before buying NMN, resveratrol, fisetin, spermidine or a multi-ingredient formula, look for a named material, declared dose, lot number, testing scope and a manufacturer that can explain its quality controls.
1. Identity: is it the molecule on the label?
Identity testing distinguishes the intended ingredient from a substitute, related compound or diluted raw material. This matters especially for visually similar powders and botanical extracts. A product called an “NAD booster,” for example, should name the precursor and state the amount rather than hiding several materials inside a proprietary blend.
Analytical methods must fit the substance. Chromatography can separate and quantify small molecules; mass spectrometry can strengthen identity confirmation; botanical materials may need chemical fingerprints and, in some cases, microscopy or DNA-based methods. No single method answers every quality question.
2. Potency and purity: does the serving match the label?
Potency is the measured amount of active ingredient. Purity describes how much of the tested material is the intended compound relative to related substances. A high-purity raw material does not by itself prove that each finished capsule contains the labelled dose, so finished-product testing and manufacturing controls matter as well.

3. Contaminants: testing should match the ingredient
Relevant panels commonly include heavy metals and microbiological contaminants. Plant-derived extracts may also warrant pesticide, solvent or mycotoxin testing depending on the source and extraction process. The correct question is not whether a brand tests for “everything”; it is whether the risk-based panel fits the raw material and finished dosage form.
Good manufacturing practices reduce mix-ups, cross-contamination and record failures, but GMP language is not proof that a specific batch met every specification. Quality systems and batch results work together.

- Match the lot: the certificate should identify the same batch as the bottle or state clearly whether it covers raw material or finished product.
- Check the sample: identify what was tested, when and by whom.
- Read methods and limits: “pass” only has meaning beside a specification and an analytical method.

- Look for relevant contaminants: the panel should reflect the source material and dosage form.
Pharmacopoeial references such as USP, European Pharmacopoeia and Japanese Pharmacopoeia can provide recognized methods or specifications when an applicable monograph exists. 5. Apply the checklist to a MASI program

Does third-party testing prove a supplement works?

Is 99% purity enough?
Not by itself. Ask what method produced the result, whether it applies to the raw material or finished capsule, how potency compares with the label and what the remaining fraction contains.
Should every certificate be public?
Public batch documents can improve transparency, but their value depends on lot matching, methods and limits. A technically complete support response may be more useful than a decorative badge.
What should I avoid on marketplaces?
